*La historia Detrás de los Lápices: Su Origen*
La forma más primitiva del lápiz que conocemos hoy fue hallada a mediados del siglo XVII en Inglaterra, cuando se encontró un depósito enorme de grafito. Los habitantes de la zona empezaron a utilizar el grafito porque para escribir sobre la piel de las ovejas y de este modo, poder marcar los rebaños.
Los italianos Simonio y Lyndiana Bernacotti insertaron el grafito en una pieza ahuecada de madera de enebro a fines de proteger al grafito. La técnica fue perfeccionada posteriormente.
Recién en 1795, el general Nicholas Jacques Conté descubrió que mezclando polvo de grafito y arcilla y pasándolo por un proceso de cocción se obtenían barras de grafito con mayor resistencia. Ello reveló que variando los porcentajes de grafito y arcilla se conseguían propiedades distintas

* The Story Behind Pencils: Their Origins *
The earliest form of the pencil as we know it today was found in the mid-17th century in England, when a huge deposit of graphite was found. The inhabitants of the area began to use graphite because it was used to write on the skin of sheep to mark their flocks.
The Italians Simonio and Lyndiana Bernacotti inserted the graphite into a hollowed out piece of juniper wood to protect the graphite. The technique was later perfected.
It was not until 1795 that General Nicholas Jacques Conté discovered that by mixing graphite powder and clay and firing it, graphite rods of greater strength could be obtained. This revealed that by varying the percentages of graphite and clay, different properties could be achieved.
