* In the artist's story *

The Italian artist Aron Demetz intertwines beauty and distortion in his work. His creation is based on the exploration of the human figure with a great technique of wood carving, where he expresses themes such as the wound, the healing and the metamorphosis.
In this way, the figures in his works are in classic or unusual and strange postures, as can be seen in his series "Introspection".
In another of his series, “Advanced Minorities,” he unites in the same figure a smooth appearance with sets of frayed grooves of wood shavings. This combination symbolizes the disagreement that exists between humans and nature on many occasions. Thus, Demetz uses wood to underline both the harmony and the conflict that exists between these two entities.Although the main material in the manufacture of his pieces is wood, he has also made works with natural resin (with which he gives his figures of wood a more corporal presence and emphasizes its vulnerability), with the use of fire (to create intense sculptures and purify them in a symbolic way) and with the intervention of a robot (exploring the non-expressive neutrality of the computer). The wood uses different types: linden, cherry, redwood, fir, poplar, maple and cedar, among others. The choice of each of them corresponds to the different qualities that can be obtained for a specific piece: color, grain and imperfections. His affinity with wood carving comes from a family heritage, since in the city where he was born (Vitipeno, Tirol del Sur) has a long tradition of this technique, dating back several centuries.
