Máximo representante del expresionismo abstracto norteamericano, el action painting y del dripping, Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) fue un revolucionario en su forma de concebir el arte. Precisamente el acrílico se asocia al action painting, la corriente pictórica abstracta de carácter gestual en la que trabajaba con el lienzo o la superficie de trabajo directamente sobre el suelo y él derramando la pintura u otros materiales con palos, pinceles secos, jeringuillas… Pollock quería que su pintura comunicase al espectador la pasión y el ritmo con la que había sido creada y afirmaba que nuevas necesidades requerían nuevas técnicas, por eso fue capaz de abandonar el caballete, de buscar alternativas a los pinceles y de experimentar, como otros pintores de la escuela neoyorquina, con nuevos materiales como el acrílico en su aparición en los años cincuenta o el esmalte.

Maximum representative of North American abstract expressionism, action painting and dripping, Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) was a revolutionary in his way of conceiving art. Acrylic is precisely associated with action painting, the abstract pictorial movement of a gestural nature in which he worked with the canvas or the work surface directly on the floor and he spilled the paint or other materials with sticks, dry brushes, syringes ... Pollock wanted that his painting communicated to the viewer the passion and rhythm with which it had been created and affirmed that new needs required new techniques, that is why he was able to abandon the easel, to look for alternatives to brushes and to experiment, like other painters of the New York school, with new materials such as acrylic in its appearance in the fifties or enamel.
