Wax Patinas have a creamy consistency that allows them to be applied on different surfaces such as plaster, wood, ceramic bisque, metal, vegetable paper or any porous material or with any type of mordant. They are also used to color the bases to be decorated, allowing the background color or the grain of the wood to show through or to decorate pieces of wood. Once applied, they are left to dry and rubbed to make them shine.

* Why is the use of patinas introduced to the artistic technique? *

Patina, in its academic definition, is the "soft, satiny tone" that oil paints acquire as a result of the ageing process? This conception is linked to a traditional understanding of painting, which seemed to require the use of varnishes in its finishing, homogenising and softening the colours, both for conservation and aesthetic reasons, preventing, among other things, the degeneration of certain pigments. The definition extends to other pictorial techniques and "other antique objects"; even to an "indefinable character that certain things acquire over time", linked to admiration for the art of the past, which even justifies the artificial search for this aspect.
