Cave art, as a striking trace of prehistoric man, was made with rudimentary brushes. It was from the middle of the 4th century BC that Egyptian potters began to paint objects with brushes made from ox hair, as can be seen from the remains found in tombs at Giza. These consisted of thin branches to the end of which was tied a piece of hair, still attached to the animal's hide. In China, the brush achieved such perfection that it acquired a structure similar to the one we know today.
